About this deal

Dragging Ellen Burstyns speech out at the end of the movie cutting to AmelIa - I don't think this movie is getting enough credit for how the music and editing flow from scene to scene. A lot of times to music starts very quietly and gradually builds from scene to scene very effective. (Cooper telling Murph he is leaving) (Prof Brandt's confession >Chastain's video of pain/anger>screen on the Endurance- very effective menacing music) Celestial Landmarks—Explore how the filmmakers used practical special effects informed by real scientific equations to give the illusion of real space travel for both the actors and the audience. The Space Suits—A look at the design and build of the suits and helmets, and what it was like to wear them. The conclusions that are reached can appear hokey on the surface. There's an "I've seen this somewhere else," vibe near the end. But, with Nolan's keen directorial eye, focused on the wonder of practical special effects, and a dominating performance from McConaughey, 'Interstellar' overcomes most of its faults and satisfies in the end. The Dust– The dust, which played a big part in the Earth sequences, was done on film as opposed to during post-production, for a more realistic effect.

That's a whole lotta movie," gasped my wife after her first viewing of Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar.' Plot: What’s it about? Video: How’s it look? Audio: How’s it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about? With our time on Earth coming to an end, a team of explorers undertakes the most important mission in human history; traveling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars. In the near future the Earth is suffering from a drought. The “Dust Bowl” that happened in the mid west in the 1930’s has become a worldwide problem. Crops are drying up and huge dust storms are commonplace. Farmer/Engineer Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and his family aren’t immune to the climate changes, either. However, it so happens that they discover some sort of code that leads Cooper to the headquarters of NASA. He’s informed that they’re sending a shuttle into space to try and solve the drought on Earth. Cooper, along with a skeleton crew, head off into the bowels of space and head for a wormhole that will allow them to travel beyond our solar system. The odds of survival are slim. Will Cooper and his crew be able to navigate the dangers of space and save the Earth or are they doomed?

The not-so-distant future is dire. Our planet is dying. America is trapped in an increasingly dangerous futuristic Dust Bowl. A blight has taken our crops. One by one the world's major crop species are dying, leaving us hungry and relying on the last sustainable crop, corn. Though, it's just a matter of time before the world is out of food (though, curiously barley-based alcohol seems rather plentiful). What will we do then? Interstellar makes for one hell of an audio experience, but in staying faithful to the material it brings the same problematic dialogue issues to the home format. TARS and CASE—Designing and building these unique characters and how they were brought to life on set and in the film. TARS and CASE (09:27) - A detailed look at the two intelligent mobile machines in the film, how they were designed and brought to life for the film. Across all Dimensions and Time (09:02) - The design and realisation of the tesseract seen in the film's final act.Yet what makes Interstellar stand out from a film like 2001 is its script. 2001, despite some of its big ideas and breath taking visuals, is at times a cold and clinical film where the most human character is the computer HAL. Interstellar definitely has its share of striking visuals and fascinating scientific concepts (explored in much greater depth in The Science Of Interstellar by the films science consultant Kip Thorne) but that's not really what the film is about at an emotional level. The film explores humanity's place not just on this pale blue dot but out in the universe from our potential as a species to that fight or flight reflex that leads some of us to do incredible things and others to commit terrible acts of cowardice (something that makes me think that the name of Matt Damon's character is no accident). Interstellar speaks to what drives us and asks what we are capable of, telling us that (to paraphrase a line from the film's first teaser trailer) our greatest accomplishments are still waiting for us out there somewhere and that, in the words of the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas that becomes almost a refrain throughout the film, we should not go gentle into that good night and rage, rage against the dying of the light. There are now two planets left, Mann’s and Edmond’s. Edmond’s data is better although it has stopped transmitting. Mann is still transmitting. They only have fuel for one. Mann’s is chosen as he is still transmitting. For Brand this is heartbreaking as she is in love with Edmond and this is essentially a death sentence for him if he is still alive.

However, unlike 'Inception', whilst I think I've fully understood all those concepts (which are again linked to a theme of 'time'), I remain unhappy about one particular set of scenes which I believe are not necessarily a 'plot hole' but are certainly hard to prove as 'viable' without a LOT of investment in the theory of time 'science' or believability (and yes, I have studied the theories of Einstein !) - I have covered that a bit at the end of this review, after the dashed line, as it contains spoilers... If Gravity took us into orbit and Sunshine took us to the sun then Interstellar takes us beyond both with wormholes, space anomalies, alien planets and other dimensions. For me, having already seen it in the cinema, 'Interstellar' is an extremely impressive spectacle which (unusually for a Christopher Nolan film) provoked extreme emotion - I know I have not been the only grown-man to 'blub' as the movie reached it's climax....The Dust—Learn how cast and crew avoided sand blindness, and see how to create, and clean up after, a catastrophic dust storm.

Interstellar (2014) - Blu-ray Interstellar (2014) - Blu-ray

What follows is an introductory-type set of scenes so we are familiarised further (and more specifically) with the era, present 'predicament' and the significant characters - before the story rapidly progresses as the influential plotlines are 'injected' into it. Life on Cooper's Farm (09:43) - The story of the lengths the filmmakers went to to create a corn working outside Calgary in Canada, including building a farm house for exterior and interior photography and growing 500 acres of corn. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray seven acclaimed films from dierctor Christopher Nolan: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception and Dunkirk will be available courtesy of from Warner ... The Endurance– A look at the spaceship in the film, its resemblance to the International Space Station and a tour of the inside (which looks conspicuously like another we’ve seen before…)

Film Review

Dr. Mann- interesting character. Serves 2 purposes. Explains Prof. Brandt's sham and gives Cooper another opportunity to show what a badass pilot he is. Also, I think Brandt really bonded with Cooper emotionally after he saved them. Mann gave an excuse for maybe the 2 best set pieces ever in filmed. People also cry PARADOX at this point. Cooper should be able to send himself a message in the past to find NASA which is true for beings occupying three dimensional physical space and experiencing time linearly(fourth dimension). Beyond those four dimensions though time is not linear. It has all happened, past future and present. That doesn’t mean you can jump in and out of physical space at different times, it just means you can observe it all happening and something like a paradox doesn’t exist when there is no beginning or end. It sounds like fantasy but it is a viable theory in advanced physics. Blu-ray.com and Paramount Home Entertainment are offering three members the opportunity to win a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray copy of director Christopher Nolan's Interstellar (2014), starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, and John ... If Gravity took us into orbit and Sunshine took us to the sun then Interstellar takes us beyond both with wormholes, space anomalies, alien planets and other dimensions
